New Skills

These skills are no longer used: Spot
Listen
Hide
Move Silently
Spellcraft

New Skills:

Perception (Wis): Spot and Listen combine to form the skill Perception. Any bonus that applies to one of these skills applies to Perception –although a bonus can not be gained from the same source more than once (for example, elves receive a +2 racial bonus to Spot and Listen, this would translate to only a +2 to Perception, not +4). The Alertness feat should be replaced with Skill Focus (Perception).
Usage:
Class Skill: Perception is a class skill for any class that lists either Spot or Listen as a class skill.
Synergy Bonus: Perception grants a +2 synergy bonus to Search and to Sense Motive.
Use Untrained? Yes

Stealth (Dex): Hide and Move Silently combine to form Stealth. Any bonus that applies to one of these skills applies to Stealth –although a bonus can not be gained from the same source more than once. The Stealthy feat should be replaced with Skill Focus (Stealth).
Usage:
Class Skill: Stealth is a class skill for any class that lists either Hide or Move Silently as a class skill.
Use Untrained? Yes

Magical Lore (Int): This skill replaces Spellcraft. Any bonus that applies to Spellcraft applies to Magical Lore.
Usage: Magical Lore is used to identify an active magical effect, per the Spellcraft skill (PHB, p.82), and can also be used as a standard action to identify magical items. The DC to do so is (25 + Item Level). You cannot take 10 or 20 on this skill, but studying the item for an hour grants a +10 bonus on the skill check to identify the item.
Magical Lore can also in some situations be used to manipulate magical energy (to deactivate a magical ward, for example, or to siphon energy from an onging effect into another). These manipulations should not duplicate an existing spell or deal direct damage; the DC and time requirement of these types of actions are at the DM’s discretion.
Retry: One check is made on the first attempt to identify an item, and another can be made after 1 hour of study. No further attempts can be made until your Magical Lore skill improves as part of a character level up (either through a feat or skill ranks)
Class Skill: Magical Lore is a class skill for Bards, Clerics, Druids, Sorcerers, and Wizards, as well as any other class that lists Spellcraft as a class skill.
Synergy Bonus: Magical Lore grants a synergy bonus to Use Magic Device, and to Craft (Alchemy) when used to identify a potion.
Use Untrained? No.

Martial Lore (Int):
Usage: Martial Lore can be used to identify and appraise arms and armor, to size up opponents, and to gain a tactical advantage in combat.

Check DC Action Use
20+ Item Level Standard Identify and appraise a Weapon, piece of Armor, or Augment Crystal. Handling the item for 5 minutes grants one retry with a +5 on the check, but no further attempts can be made until your skill improves via skill ranks or feats.
10+ Target’s CR/ Level Move Determine Target’s Base Attack Modifier relative to yours (higher, lower, or the same). An exact number can be determined, but the DC of the check increases by 5. Retry allowed.
15+ Feat’s Requirement Level* Immediate Identify a combat feat** as it is used. If multiple feats are used at once, the DC is determined by the lowest level feat; for every 10 points by which the DC is exceeded, another feat can be identified. Each feat need only be identified once per combatant – for example, if a fighter uses both Weapon Focus and Improved Critical, Weapon Focus can be identified one round and Improved Critical the next. Retry allowed.
10+ Target’s CR/ Level Swift Determine Target’s general hit point level (Uninjured, Barely Injured, Wounded, Badly Wounded, Near Death), and ongoing status effects (Fatigued, Shaken, etc.). Retry Allowed.
Opposed Free Before initiative is rolled at the start of combat, one combatant on each side may make a skill check to determine tactical advantage. The winning combatant and all allies within 30’ may take a 5 foot step before rolling for initiative. This check cannot be made in the surprise round. Retry allowed.
  1. Requirement Level (RL) is calculated as Base Attack/Level requirement, +1 per feat or ability score requirement to learn the feat. For example, Weapon Finesse is RL of 1 (Base Attack +1), while Whirlwind Attack is RL 9 (Base Attack +4, Ability, 4 Feats)
  2. Combat feat is generally any feat that is available as a fighter bonus feat or that grants a special attack or defense in combat (Such as Divine Armor)

Class Skill: Martial Lore is a class skill for Barbarian, Fighter, Monk, Paladin, Ranger, and Rogue. Generally, classes that use the best Base Attack Modifier (equal to level) may receive Martial Lore as a class skill, as well as a few other classes that are heavily focused on combat.
Synergy Bonus: Craft (Arms and Armor) grants a synergy bonus to Martial Lore checks to identify equipment. Martial Lore grants a synergy bonus to Knowledge (History) and Knowledge (Local) checks to gain information about battles and wars.
Use Untrained? No.
